Working Together Policy
Working Together Policy
Purpose: To help all members of the school community work together effectively to support children’s learning and development
Parents and Carers
We recognise that parents/carers play a fundamental role in a child’s learning and development. They are the child’s first carers and educators. School and
parents/carers have common aims for children. By working together and sharing information between the school and the home we can provide high quality care
and stimulating learning experiences.
We aim to have an open, honest and supportive relationship with all the families of our school where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
We communicate and share information in many different ways:
● Being a small school, our primary means of communication is by talking to individual parents/carers. A quick word when needed is usually the most
effective way to address an issue as it enables it to be dealt with promptly.
Parents/carers are able to call into the School office at the beginning and end of each day if they have any issue that they need to raise. If the Headteacher,
Principal or relevant member of staff is free to talk at that time, a short conversation will be held. If not free, or if a longer conversation is needed, an
appointment can be made through the Office Manager.
● Parents/carers may also telephone the Office at any time to arrange to come in to discuss issues affecting their child.
● A parents’/carers’ evening is held once a year at which each child’s progress and future development are discussed.
● We provide parents/carers with a written report of their child’s development and achievements in all areas at the end of each year.
● Parents/carers are always consulted and permission sought if the School feels that a child needs additional support at any time (see Special Educational
Needs Policy).
● Through all these actions, parents/carers are able to make suggestions on how we can make improvements.
● A diary of events is issued regularly giving information on planned activities and their dates.
● Newsletters are issued periodically to inform parents/carers of school events, special occasions and any changes to the operation of the school.
● A Handbook is available from the School Office for parents/carers to read at any time.
● Parents/carers are encouraged to volunteer to share any particular skill or interest which could enhance the children’s school experience. For example;
a language, music or sports skill, participating in outings or events.
● We aim for a smooth transition between home and nursery, nursery and school, school and college, and work closely with parents/carers to achieve
this. At the time the child is ready to leave us we encourage parents/carers to share information, such as the record keeping of the child’s learning and
development profile with the child’s next school or college.
It is the aim of Llangattock School Monmouth to provide the best possible service to parents/carers and their children. Nevertheless, it is possible that, occasionally,
some parents will think that an aspect of the school is not working as they would wish. We will ensure that any concerns or complaints from parents/carers are dealt
with swiftly and effectively in accordance with the schools’ Parent/Carer Complaints Policy.
Local Community and Business
The School is part of the local community and values the variety of experiences and opportunities that this brings to our children, parents/carers and staff.
There are several schools in our area and we embrace shared activities and opportunities to extend the experiences we can offer children, including,
participating in science talks given by Monmouth School Habs. We also use their swimming facilities. We are always looking for opportunities to bring experiences
to the pupils at our School. Current and recent examples include the Upper School students attending a sleepover to view the Lunar Eclipse as part of their
astronomy studies; talks/visits by local business people and professionals; the use of a local tennis court ; trips to workshops and places of interest.
Children
Children are encouraged to tell teachers, as part of the day to day routine, how they are feeling about their time in school.
Sometimes a child may have a concern that they wish to express formally. In such cases, we will ensure that any concerns or complaints from children are dealt with
swiftly and effectively in accordance with the schools’ Pupil Complaints Policy.
The children are encouraged to get involved with charitable and business activities, coming together to fundraise for the Aptitude Trust or the school . On Sports Day
they run their own mini-businesses the profits are split 50:50 for the Aptitude Trust and their own gain. They also take part in national fundraising events such as Comic
Relief and Children in Need as well as participating in activities such as The Big Garden Birdwatch, The Great British Bee Count and The Daily Mile.
Best Practice in Education
No one person has a monopoly of good ideas. Staff are encouraged, as part of their professional development, to foster contacts in other schools and to share
experiences and best practice.
They are encouraged, through annual reviews, to stretch their knowledge and skills through continuing professional development and further training.
We also are pleased for staff from other settings to visit us to see what we achieve for our children.
Some of our tutors are actively involved in creative projects outside school and they bring their experiences into the expansion of the pupils’ knowledge of the
world.
Our teachers also have the benefit of close links with other schools and teachers and have consulted them on rugby for juniors, practical science and art projects.
This is a small community where people are known and where pupils can feel that someone is looking out for them, and that is our aim.
