About Us
Our Approach
Llangattock School Monmouth is an independent, mainstream school. We are a specialist setting for children who require a nurturing environment with small class sizes and high levels of adult support. Many children arrive with negative associations of school due to anxiety, school refusal or adverse childhood experiences. We provide a bespoke, flexible school experience based on a child’s strengths and needs which allows their self-esteem and confidence to rebuild whilst achieving academically.
Wellbeing is at the heart of what we do. All staff work with a trauma informed approach and an awareness of sensory needs. We offer a dyslexia friendly environment which supports social communication needs.
We believe that education should enrich lives and educators should speak to the emerging adult within.
Therefore our strong values guide our relational approach. “You can be yourself, but not to the detriment of others”, our one school rule ensures kindness, compassion, tolerance of differences and respect for others as well as yourself underpin our three core aims: Wellbeing; Engagement; Academics. It is our belief that children are naturally curious and if they feel safe and understood they can blossom. We provide education in a comfortable environment where everyone can achieve at their appropriate pace. With expert support, students accrue qualifications that best reflect their abilities and interests. We support families in their choice of education to enable a healthy transition to adulthood in a trusting partnership between child, parents and school.
Wellbeing
We provide a safe, stress-free and non-judgemental environment that absolutely celebrates each unique child. Our policies are informed by the work of Dr. Dan Hughes and Louise Michelle Bomber who advocate a relational approach to understanding behaviour and educating children. Building trusting relationships enable children to grow; emotionally, socially and academically. Working with an understanding of the latest scientific research ensures that we are offering a wholistic experience which will enable the child to achieve.
Engagement
We give each child access to teachers with enthusiasm and expertise in each subject who can inspire our pupils. We facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through the preferred learning style of each individual. Vertical grouping allows children access to the curriculum at an appropriate level, so that they can review previous learning or stretch forward according to their level of confidence and ability.
Academic achievement
We encourage children to recognise their true potential and aim high to achieve academic success. We respond to the resulting engagement in learning by enabling them to accrue a set of qualifications specific to their abilities and talents, aiming for an appropriate level of challenge and high expectations for their future.
